Rajasthan, one of the charming destinations of India, houses a number of historical as well as beautiful tourist spots in its desert breast. You may have heard a lot about the forts and monuments of Rajasthan, perhaps you may also have seen them. Earlier I had heard a lot about the forts and monument of Rajasthan, but I never got a chance to visit them. I am fortunate enough that recently I got a chance to visit the Bikaner town which is home to Junagarh Fort.
Here I want to share my personal experience with you that will certainly entice you a lot. Jungarah Fort was built in the 15th century, by one of the most able and trusted generals of Akbar, Raja Rai Singh. An exciting blend of Rajput and Mughal architectural styles is found in every nook and corner of this fort. An impregnable lofty wall and intense moats around the fort guards it from the sudden attacks of the enemies. Interestingly, Junagarh Fort is the only fort which is unconquered till date.
All through the fort, you will find out that it is guarded strictly by thirty seven guard. You can access inside the fort through its two gates. Amongst them, the Suraj Pol or the Sun Gate is the main entrance that conveys you a warm welcome. As you step inside the fort, to your extreme wonder, you will find a profusion of thirty seven palaces, temples and pavilions, constructed of marvellous red sandstone. You will just feel a dreamy state here.
All the palaces are artistically bedecked with exquisitely carved windows, balconies, towers and kiosks. Besides, the mirrors, paintings and carved marble panels in the Moon Palace offer a cool treatment for your eyes. The Phool Mahal or Flower Palace is nicely embellished with glasses and mirrors. Gradually, when you will arrive into the multi-storeyed Anup Mahal, the governance chambers for the rulers will help you to get the idea of administration procedure. In the highly adorned rooms, the treasures of the Royal family are in display for the visitors.
The wonders are not finished yet. Several surprises are awaiting for you in the Ganga Niwas, Dungar Niwas, Vijai Mahal and in Rang Mahal. Royal grandeur, artistic dexterity, flourishing of rich and scarce metallic sculpture will just mesmerise you while you move from one palace to another. Apart from that, in the fort museum, you will see an extensive collection of illuminated manuscripts, jewellery, jars and carpets, arms and weapons, treaties, decorations and the 'Farmans'.
Moreover, you can never mitigate your quest only by reading my blog. In fact, one can never be pleased after hearing only beautiful objects until he/she tastes that. Therefore, get ready for your Bikaner trip and visit the town to have a personal view of the picturesque Jungarh fort. Surely you will be pleased by the wonders of the fort and remember your trip forever.
